Report: Indiana unprepared for severe winter weather

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana’s power grid is strong enough for a regular winter, but a new report says a severe winter could be too much for the state.

The report from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation says Indiana’s power grid depends on natural gas, and a winter that would disrupt the flow of natural gas could leave people in the dark or without the ability to stay warm.

NERC says Texas’ troubles last winter show what can happen when the electric grid isn’t prepared for bitter cold and snow.

Electric grid managers in the state say they’ve seen the report and agree that Indiana could take some steps to become better prepared.
