LAGRANGE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Officials in Lagrange County say a man is facing charges after a boy in his care died from injuries last month.
Police say he did not get the child proper medical care after a fall from a tractor and several other injuries.
The Iowa man is now facing a host of charges following the boy’s death on August 22.
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
On 8/19/2021, officers from the Shipshewana Police Department and the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a child with injuries at the Livestock Auction Barn at 345 Van Buren St, Shipshewana, IN.
Initial investigation revealed that the 4-year-old juvenile male had fallen from the driver’s area of a semi-tractor on Monday of that same week, which resulted in the juvenile sustaining injuries to his face and side of his head. Through further investigation it was discovered that Dylan Diericx of IA, has been the only care giver for the child since 8/15/2021 and that the juvenile had been subjected to multiple incidents where he sustained serious injures all over his body. Dylan Diericx had failed to get proper medical attention for the juvenile in a timely manner. The juvenile was airlifted to Parkview Regional Hospital where he was examined and listed in critical condition.
On 8/22/2021 the juvenile died as a result of his injuries.
This matter is still under investigation by the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana State Police and the Shipshewana Police Department. Dylan Diericx was arrested and booked into the LaGrange County Jail; on (1) count of Neglect of a Dependent, a Level 1 Felony. Additional charges are possible and other jurisdiction are likely to be involved as this matter unfolds
