Six people safe after Wednesday evening fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The FWFD says that six people made it out of a house fire on the city’s southeast side Wednesday evening.

Crews were called to the home in the 2900 block of Oakwood Drive, near Tillman and Hessel Cassel around 7:30 p.m.

According to the Fort Wayne Fire Department, the fire started in the attic due to electrical issues.

Multiple firefighters could be seen standing in front of the garage, and a portion of the home’s roof above the garage had been cut out. Crews made their way to the attic and quickly knocked down the flames.

The home suffered moderate fire, water, and smoke damage. Firefighters gained control of the blaze in about 15 minutes.

No injuries were reported.

Fort Wayne Firefighters responded to a structure fire at 2922 Oakwood. First arriving units had smoke issuing from the attic area of the home. The fire was found in the attic and extinguished. There was moderate smoke, fire and water damage. 6 people evacuated before FWFD units arrived. The fire was investigated and was fond to be electrical in nature. The fire was deemed under control in 14 minutes.
